Yuletide 2025
Oct. 22nd, 2025 06:36 pmHappy Yuletide, dear creator :D
Thanks for checking out this letter, I hope you’ll find it useful! I’ve gone ahead and noted down some thoughts on the fandoms I requested, as well as some roundabout prompts. As always, though, feel free to just ignore those if you’re not feeling them – I’ll be excited to see what you come up with!! I’m happy with any rating of fic, as well. Also: the length of any one section only corresponds to my ability (or inability :’D) to put my thoughts about it into words, not how much I care about it.

General Likes
GENERAL LIKES:
worldbuilding, missing-scene type fic, unreliable narrators, banter, us against the world, moral conflicts, loyalty and abuse of said loyalty, moral ambiguity in general, pragmatic characters, people kicking ass together, dysfunctional/codependent relationship, unlikely allies, competence, horror(!!), cosmic horror – the more eldritch and inhuman the better, action scenes and battles/fights, trust and trust issues, protectiveness, things getting destroyed in totally over-the-top way, ambiguous or downright unhappy endings
I also really love any type of work that plays with its format: epistolary fic, IF, footnotes, fic mimicking other media, in-universe documents, etc…. House of Leaves and its adventurous typesetting was a formative influence on me, lmao. If you want to do anything experimental with the format, consider this my explicit encouragement to go ham with it.

Thomas Zane
I fucking love Tom Zane. Go back far enough on this DW and I’m pretty sure you’ll find me requesting him a literal decade ago, lmao. His story as Tom the Poet in the first game was absolutely my jam, and I really liked where This House of Dreams went in differentiating Tom the Poet from Tom the Diver. And then my guy shows up in AWE/AW2 and…he’s a filmmaker? ???? Incredible. I’ve never felt such a connection to Cynthia Weaver as when I found her journal entry just going “but…I remember him as a poet ;A;”, haha.
I’d love your take on what’s happening here with the guy – is Thomas Seine just the Dark Presence having finally found another face to wear, like it threatened at the end of AW1? Is it Scratch? Is Seine in fact Zane’s Scratch?? Or is he actually all on the up and up, and never wrote himself out of reality at all, and that was all just Alan adapting things for Departure? There’s so many ways the Seine/Zane thing could go, and I’d be super down with any and all exploration of them.
I’m also super interested in his time in Bright Falls, whether that’s as a poet/diver or as a filmmaker. What was his (and Barbara’s) time on Diver’s Isle like; how did he end up collaborating with the Anderson brothers in the Poet-reality? What were those terrible last few days/weeks/months like, when Barbara had come back out of the lake and Tom was forced to realize that well, shit, there’s something awful wearing his muse’s face? And how, in turn, did all of that play out in the version where he’s a filmmaker? How’d he take out Barbara – if the diver was only one of the roles he played, then how did he incapacitate the Dark Presence and get both it and himself into the lake?
(In case it’s relevant, I do ship him with literally everyone from the Andersons to the Dark Presence, lmao. So if you want to include any ships this is your blank check.)

Valantin, Emperor Taranis, Worldbuilding
The DS had a lot of great games, but this one’s got to be my absolute fave. There’s just so much going on at any given time, and I love how the plot plays with your expectations – like, that early instance of Kira suddenly appearing as Yuri’s sister just as he’s about to leave his home system and you’re like, huh, bad writing but moving on! And then 50 hours later it turns out that actually, no, that wasn’t bad writing, that was the fucking Overlords rewriting reality and literally fabricating a Tracker for their Observer. I LOVE IT SO MUCH.
Valantin and Taranis, meanwhile, really intrigued me as characters from the moment they were each introduced, and by the time it was revealed that they a) were actually an Observer-Tracker pair, b) had figured out the Overlords’ scheme years ago, and c) had been working to fortify the universe against them ever since, I was all in. Love me a pair of characters who do terrible things in the name of the greater good.
With this request I’m basically interested in absolutely anything involving them, as unhelpful as that is :’D Their early days exploring the wider galaxy could be super fun: how were they introduced to each other, what sort of trouble did they get themselves into while starting to make names for themselves? And what was it like when they learned the truth about their roles in the world, as Observers and Trackers? And since they’re bound as a pair by their purpose, what was it like for them as Taranis built his empire while Valantin went about becoming the top space pirate? Did they have clandestine meetings, or was it considered okay for the two of them to be associating in the public eye? And in how far did their relationship change when they figured out that they were a created Tracker-Observer pair?
I’d also be super interested in some wider worldbuilding involving them. How much, exactly, did they figure out before the events of the game, and how did they end up compensating for it in their plans? The Overlords they knew about of course; as well as them being able to manipulate Tracker/Observer pairs via the void gates. But there’s also that bit about the Cosmic Trade Authority stations being placed onto the planets by the Overlords (and then having them act as a guide of sorts for their phages in the endgame), and the way the whole Lugovalian empire is set up to create strong captains to be able to stand against the Overlords – what were the logistics of that like? How’d Valantin and Taranis end up deciding that this was the way they were going to go about fighting back?

Ssrin, Ssenenet, Iruvage
Ontologically damned snake aliens, my beloved. I’m requesting all three of them – Ssrin, Ssenenet, and Iruvage – here in all sorts of combinations because quite frankly I’m on the one hand extremely excited for, and on the other super happy with, absolutely anything with them. I think it’s absolutely fascinating how the three of them, despite having come – as far as we can tell – from a fairly similar background, each end up taking wildly different stances on both the khai’s as well as their own personal role within the cosmic story. Ssrin and Ssenenet seem to have gone through diametrically opposite arcs, while Iruvage is…hammily happy just getting to do his thing? Long story short I’d love to see them all interact on page in whatever way you’re equally intrigued by.
Ssrin and Ssenenet: Doomed snek sisters my beloveds…I love all the hints we get in canon about their relationship – and all the very deliberate gaps Ssrin leaves in her recounting, too – these sisters loved each other once upon a time, for as much as khai could, and now they’re at a point where Ssenenet is feeding her agent information on all of Ssrin’s weak spots. What was their childhood like? Were the ideological differences between them already showing while they were still young? I’d love to know more about these two, and their relationship to each other, and how all of that is wrapped up in the fact that not only is their whole species doomed to hell, but that they’re actively waging war on the whole rest of the universe because of it.
Ssenenet and Iruvage: The fact that Iruvage is doing All Of That for Ssenenet is. Well. I want to put them both in a jar and shake them. How did they end up working together?? Ssenenet’s efforts and end goals come across as being as opposed to the khai’s so, like, how exactly did she end up with Iruvage, who’s got being hammily evil down to a science, as her loyal agent? He calls her his “sovereign” ffs! HOW DID THEY END UP LIKE THIS. And how will she react when he gets back to her a) without the Demiurge and b) with news of her sister having run off with a bunch of ape-kin?
Ssrin and Iruvage: They hate each other a lot and I think that’s lovely. There is sort of the sense that they used to work together at some point – and I suppose both of them being Exordian operatives tracks with that – but now Ssrin is here to save the universe from the khai, while Iruvage is, by his own account, mainly here to eat people. I’d love to see them thrown at each other at any point in their history: while they were still on the same side, or something pre-Earth with Ssrin already having defected, or after, with Iruvage smarting from his failure to secure Blackbird and Ssrin having foiled him so thoroughly.
