Dark
The main theme here is people he trusts/looks up to taking advantage of young  Noah because he makes the best puppydog eyes and also his teary face is A+. Just look at him!

Stranger Jonas/Young Noah

That scene where young Noah shows up a literal half hour before the apocalypse starts and tells Jonas that Adam told him they’d become friends soon enough? That was GREAT. I love that he still seems to genuinely believe in Sic Mundus and that Jonas/Adam is going to save everyone, while the Stranger is just busy trying his level best to avoid walking the same path Adam did.

(I like to think that Claudia eventually sends Noah back to 1888 via her experiments on the god particle [“I did exactly what I planned to do!” “you just shoved a dude into the blob…” “I planned it!”] but honestly handwave whatever you need to handwave to get them back in the same time period.)

Becoming The Thing That You Most Hate/Fear – Jonas is trying so hard not to turn into Adam. So hard, you guys. Tough luck for him that Noah is making it increasingly difficult.

Dubious consent due to victim's unconditional loyalty to the person demanding sex – what was all that about Jonas being the savior, Noah?

Post-Apocalyptic Survival – the 2052 era is really cool and there’s so much interesting things hinted at! What’s up with the exclusion zone, what’s society like, what in all the world are those strange pinecone-hive things hanging off of everything? I’d love for Jonas and Noah to end up together in the future, forced to navigate their way through all of that together.

Sexual Relationship as Unhealthy Coping Mechanism – they’re both fucked up in their own ways already and the beautiful thing is that there’s still sooo much awfulness left to go for both of them.

Trying To Learn From Your Mistakes But Learning The Wrong Lesson – Jonas is trying so hard not to turn into Adam, take 2! But turns out he's terrible at the whole 'learning' thing (see the bunker in S1, and just...anything with Martha really) because no matter what he does, the awful inevitable future of him becoming Adam only ever looms closer.

Would-Be Rescuer Joins in on Rape – oh thank god Jonas is finally here . . . wait.

You Saved Me Now I Owe You – Noah takes the debts he owes seriously. What did Jonas save him from? The future? Some post-apocalypse gang? The 2019-teens? Who knows! But there are so many fun options.

Noah/Young Noah

Listen, they’re both hot and I’m always here for strange self-cest shenanigans. Young Noah just has so much admiration and respect for his older self, and I love how awkwardly earnest Noah is with his kid self – just how honest can he be with him, really? He needs his kid self to turn out enough like him to not mess up the timeloop irrevocably, but he also needs him to change just enough to have a chance of succeeding where Noah failed.

. . . all their scenes together were really good to me is what I’m saying, haha.

Dubious consent due to victim's unconditional loyalty to the person demanding sex – “so listen, when I was young my older self and I totally did this so now that I’m him I gotta fuck you to preserve the timeloop”, and who is young Noah to distrust his older self?

Exhaustion – being a time traveler really takes it out of you.

Hurt No Comfort – but also potentially don’t hug him. Either is good. Both physical and emotional hurt are super welcome, I'm not picky.

Knifeplay – young Noah has a knife! Older Noah still has that knife! They both love their knife!!

Nightmares – young Noah just killed that dude by the cave :C That’s got to have some repercussions. And older Noah probably has all those dead kids weighing heavy on his mind as well . . . especially with his daughter still out there somewhere.

Rapist Believes Rape Is For Victim's Own Good – Noah has to ensure that his younger self is prepared for all the timeloop awfulness still to come, right? Right. He’s doing a good thing here. Yuuuup.

Brukhalian/Karnadas

Capustan kills me in general where the Grey Swords are concerned, but any scenes with these two hit especially hard. They’re so respectful and earnest with each other and it hurts my heart to know how things end up for them :C I love how super competent they are as Mortal Sword and Destriant, respectively, and how they both very much know it; how they’ve got so much responsibility but still take the time to joke with each other even as things grow dire around Capustan. They’re great :’C

(Given how sparse the books are with character descriptions in general, I’m just going to assume that Karnadas is around the same age as Brukhalian, if not younger, because Hetan calls him “young pup” all the time.)

Believing Others Consider Them An Inferior Substitute for Someone Else – how could either of them possibly measure up to Itkovian? Life is so difficult.

Character Is Haunted By Bad Things They Had To Do For A Good Cause – I feel like Capustan was probably the absolute worst of it (especially near the end), but what else did the Grey Swords get caught up in, before the prince hired them? What adventures did they get into, what sacrifices did they have to make?

Dubious consent due to victim's unconditional loyalty to the person demanding sex – Karnadas could never say no to his Mortal Sword. (And why would he ever want to?)

Faking Recovery So Others Will Stop Worrying About You – look, I just really love that Karnadas’ use of his healing warren has awful side-effects on him the more extensively he uses it – that’s great! And Brukhalian, too, seems like the type to keep his wounds to himself if he thinks it’d negatively impact the rest of the company.

Fever sex – it’s hooot. Also cold. Then it gets hot again, oh no. Someone should probably go get some blankets from the requisitions officer…

Injured medical professional must instruct other on how to treat their own injury – Karnadas is a mage, sure, but he’s well-versed in regular medic things, too! …too bad he’s not in any condition to do either himself.

Stealth Public Sex – it must be so difficult to get some privacy in the Grey Swords.

Cairdine Farrier/Svirakir

Hello I am so here for the ridiculous power differential between them, with Farrier very much being the type to lean heavily into that because it’s fun and Svir hating Caird with all his heart as a matter of principle. I mean, Svir is smart and can definitely hold his own (and he’d have to, to be a cryptarch) but Farrier outclasses him so much still, and I think that’s really fun.

Blackmailed/Coerced into Sex – this is baked so hard into the whole cryptarch system and I am here for it. Too bad for Svir he’s got nothing to hold over Itinerant!

Choked Until Almost Dead - ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

drugged with aphrodisiac and made to beg for sex – Farrier takes that slip-salt-in-wine game he usually plays with Hesychast up a notch.

Forced to Work Together To Bring Down Common Enemy – they’re both cryptarchs for a reason, so I imagine they’re probably super effective when pointed at a common foe . . . and Svir just hates every minute of it while Farrier is his usual jolly-manipulative self and has a blast.

I Saved You Now You Owe Me – because let’s be real, Farrier is absolutely the type of person who’d hold that over someone else forever.

Rape as a Consequence for Losing a Bet/Fight/Game – can be paired really nicely with Set up to fail, because Farrier is exactly that kind of asshole.

Amalthus/Minoth

Note: there’s a lot of Torna: The Golden Country spoilers in here.

These two have such a complicated relationship and I love it. Amalthus had been hiding his true intentions and worldview from everyone for so long even in the Torna era (and before he kills that baby, oh my god, Amalthus) – but how does that work out with Minoth being his Blade? And how does it factor in with Amalthus experimenting on Minoth and turning him into a Flesh Eater?

Minoth just holds so much animosity for Amalthus by the time Torna rolls around but it seems like Amalthus actually doesn’t care all that much about his former Blade, and I really dig that kind of dynamic.

Abuse of Authority – can you really say no when it’s your Driver demanding something of you?

Accidental voyeur guiltily enjoys watching the rape – Is it some random Indoline watching, is it someone from the Torna group, is it maybe even Malos? I’d be super down with anything.

Dependent on Enemy for Survival – post-Torna, Minoth gets captured by an anti-Flesh Eater group. But no fear, Amalthus is here! And he’s going to have fun with this.

Multi-Level Marketing/Pyramid Scheme – hey hon, haven’t talked to you in a while; can I get you interested in the Indoline Praetorium and our Core Crystal setup??

Ordered To Do Things Against Principles – just when did their principles start diverging, anyway? Even before Amalthus killed the baby? They must have had some common ground for Amalthus to be able to awaken Minoth’s Core Crystal.
